Daniel McSweeney
Patrickswell, Co Limerick
Daniel McSweeney was born and reared on a dairy and beef farm in Patrickswell, just outside Limerick City.
Daniel was one of a group of students from Salesian College in Pallaskenry who took part in the Certified Irish Angus schools’ competition in 2017. After college, Daniel became one of the youngest local councillors in the country.
Daniel’s farm has been in the family since 1898 and he still farms part-time at home with his father. He says, “For me, no two days are the same. As a part-time farmer and local councillor, I am busy but I always make time to go out and farm every day.”
Daniel’s experience with the Certified Irish Angus school’s competition had a big impact on their family farm. “My experience with Irish Angus during the school’s competition made me realise the huge benefits of the breed, including that they are more friendly to the environment. So, we have changed our beef farming model to Irish Angus and we will never look back!”
“I think working on a farm is a great way of life and, if the outdoors is something you love, I would recommend to anyone to go farming.
